The key to recovering calm is setting boundaries around regular time for renewal. Refuse to honor any guilt you may feel for taking time for yourself. You need this time to recharge so you can better take care of others. You need this time to stay well and to run with perseverance the race marked out for you.
Jesus frequently retreated to quiet places away to be alone with God. We are designed to step away from the world and renew our minds in Christ. Recharging your spiritual and mental energy can take many forms:
- Time in prayer and/or having a casual conversation with God
- Spending time in nature, praising God for His creation
- Listening to worship music
- Taking a long bath while listening to a sermon or reading a devotional
“Go back into silence to recover calm. You accomplish more by this than by all the activities of a long day.”
